Martinez: Wigan Not Moving For McGeady

Stay connected for news and updates

In an update to the Aiden McGeady rumours it looks very much like he won't be signing for Wigan Athletic.

Such is the twisty and turn-y (that's a technical term, right?) nature of the transfer deadline day, things opened with suggestions that the Latics were in pole position to sign the Irish international, however this was later rebuked by several outlets.

Now Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has waded in, insisting the deal for McGeady won't be happening;

Aiden McGeady is a top player but he's not a realistic target. It cannot happen.

Whether or not Sunderland hold any firm interest in McGeady remains to be seen, but O'Neill did mention after the Swansea game that he had a "couple of bids" in for players, and it has been widely reported that he's an admirer of McGeady, and the player himself fancies a shot at the Premier League sooner rather than later.

McGeady is currently in the UAE with Spartak Moscow, so any deal would have to be pushed through very quickly. Still, it remains one to keep an eye on.
