Experienced defender Carlos Cuellar has penned a 2-year deal at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland today completed their second signing of the summer after David Ferguson, and the fist major signing of the summer by landing out of contract defender Carlos Cuellar according to the clubs official website.
The Spaniard had long been rumored to be a target of Martin O'Neill, who signed him for Aston Villa during his time there for a whopping £7.8m from Glasgow Rangers, and adds versatility to Sunderland's defence being able to operate comfortably at left-back, right-back and in his preferred central defensive position.
At the start of the summer it appeared that Cuellar was easily the favourite to become our first major signing, however he did explore options with Olympiakos and Sevilla but instead opted to link up with his former manager.
30-year old Cuellar has signed a 2-year contract at the Stadium of Light, which is very favourable to us given his age, and will link up with his new teammates when they return to training on 11th July.
