On this day in history the New York Stock Exchange was founded, Charles de Gaulle airport opened in Paris, Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy made it's debut on Radio 4, and back on Wearside Steve Hetzke made the first of 31 long and torrid appearances for the lads at home to Charlton.

James McClean's back in the news again. This time Niall Quinn's been speaking to RTE about McClean and how he ended up in Sunderland. McClean was found by scout Pop Robson whilst Pop was at Chelsea, he told the Blues but they simply wouldn't take a chance on him. Their loss, our gain.
