For your eyes only: News.
It's Thursday, we're nearly at the weekend people, let's just keep on pushing through with this and we can make it. Oh, and hello, welcome back to another edition of The Roker Roundup. We've read the news, so you don't have to bother.
Today is February 23rd, a date noted in history for the Russian space station "Mir" catching fire in 1997, Leopold III becoming the King of Belgium in 1934, and in 2000, Sir Stanley Matthews sadly passed away.
Back to the present day however, and the news surrounding our club. We've filtered through the rubbish to bring you the best of it. You can thank us later...
First of all, the big news. Fraizer Campbell's England call-up for the game against Holland next week. Wonderful news, and anyone who doesn't like it (and there are many) can do one, or are made of stone if you can't appreciate the almost fairytale nature of it. A long comeback, and he's come back in fine form - CLICK HERE
Martin O'Neill has backed Campbell to be a success for the Three Lions, and has hailed it as a massive boost for the lad. Also, he knew for a while but didn't want to tell Fraizer, the scamp - CLICK HERE
Interim manager Stuart Pearce also defended/backed the decision to include Campbell in the England squad, telling the world what a fantastic talent he is, and how he'll thrive at this level. We hope so too - CLICK HERE
Now to other news, and whilst Campbell's recieving some well deserved plaudits, international man of mystery Asamoah Gyan says he's perfectly happy to stay away from Wearside. Fine by us to be honest - CLICK HERE
On transfer deadline day we were very quickly linked with Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen. Apparently we're still interested in him, although Roma have "joined the chase" along with several other lazy throwaway lines. for more, read this - CLICK HERE
As for the pair who did join us, Wayne Bridge and Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Martin O'Neill has been quick to note that whilst they haven't played much (or at all for Sotirios) that their time will come. There's plenty time left this season, and things are going well. We're not changing for the hell of it - CLICK HERE
