David Meyler has been called up to the Ireland quad after Wolves striker Kevin Doyle picked up an injury ahead of games with Germany and Faroe Islands as the side seek to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.
Giovanni Trapattoni has named his squad for Ireland's forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Germany and Faroe Islands next weekend.
Following the announcement though, there has been a late and surprise call up for David Meyler. Meyler was left out of the initial squad, but has come in, bypassing those who were named on standby - Richard Dunne and Robbie Brady.
Clearly Meyler must have done something in his first international appearance for the side last month against Oman that Trapattoni fancies taking a look at once more. It seems unlikely that he'll be included against Germany as Trap seems to have his favourites, but he may use the game with the Faroes to experiment somewhat, and it would be great to see Meyler in green once again.
Meyler will be joined by familiar faces in the squad as the regular trio of John O'Shea, Keiren Westwood and James McClean also receive call ups. McClean's indiscretion last month on Twitter seems to have been swept under the rug for now as but it will be interesting to see if he gets a game at all.
All players will meet up on Monday provided there aren't any injury problems.
