Sunderland To Have Pre-Season Tour Of Ghana?

Stay connected for news and updates

Looks like we could be on our way to Ghana for a friendly this summer. How much is a return ticket to Kumasi?

Sunderland could be heading over to Ghana for at least one pre-season friendly it has been revealed.

Niall Quinn held talks on Friday with senior officials from Asante Kotoko, and talks are said to have gone well. After meeting with Kotoko's international relations officer Kwame Baah Nuako and match agent Justin Addo, Quinny said "It was a huge honour to welcome the Kotoko officials to our club. There's a tremendous passion for football in Ghana and I see a real synergy with Sunderland in that respect"

The Irishman went on to say "We had an incredibly positive meeting with the chairman and senior officials and I feel privileged that they can see how their future development can be helped by what they can learn through us."

Of course such a link-up would build relations with the club and the country massively, especially if the likes of Sulley Muntari & John Mensah join the club on a full-time basis alongside star forward Asamoah Gyan.

The Kumasi based club are regarded as one of the best teams in Africa, and would host Sunderland in their 40,000 capacity Baba Yara Stadium.

The move could be good on several levels for the club. Firstly, establishing a foothold in a relatively untapped market whilst others focus their attention on America & Asia. Secondly making us look good in front of a young generation of African footballers, could hold us in good stead for acquiring future talent.
