Simon Mignolet Keeps Clean Sheet On Debut

Stay connected for news and updates

Simon Mignolet capped a tremendous year for the youngster by making his debut last night for Belgium away in Austria in a Euro 2012 qualifier.

Mignolet was the quieter of the two keepers (the other being former SAFC man Jurgen Macho) on the night, but when called upon he was in excellent form, particularly in the 11th minute, when Austrian striker Marc Janko was clean through 1-on-1 only for the lanky striker to take a heavy touch, and allow Mignolet to save well at his feet.

Mignolet made a total of five saves in the game, all of which apart from that 1-on-1 were pretty routine, as Belgium strolled to a 2-0 win.

Well don Simon, I hope this has cemented your place in the national side for years to come.

Don't forget to check out today's (Saturdays) SAFC stars in action:

Ahmed Elmohamady - South Africa v Egypt - 6:05pm - SABC 1 (RSA)
Cristian Riveros - Mexico v Paraguay - 9:00pm - Univision (USA)
Marcos Angeleri - USA v Argentina - 11:00pm - ESPN2 (USA)

Although according to reports, the worlds greatest fullback - Marcos Angeleri - is not starting for Argentina. Shame, he's really really good if you ask.... erm... him.
