Roker Relives... SAFC 3-2 Newcastle United, 1919

In a time before camera work, this is how the Sunday Sun chose to report on Sunderland's 3-2 win at St James' Park in 1919. Barney Travers bagged a brace for the lads, with Jackie Mordue another in front of a crown in excess of 60,000. In something that just wouldn't happen these days, Sunderland also beat Newcastle the week before at Roker Park, with Charlie Buchan getting both goals, and giving Sunderland 6 points in the first of the post-war derby matches.

Here's hoping for similarly good fare on Sunday...
