Roker Report's 2011 SAFC Predictions

Beside me I have some crystals, some lucky heather, some tarot cards and an empty bottle of Smirnoff triple distilled. Therefore I can see the future, and this is what’s going to happen in 2011, or so the spirits tell me...

Danny Welbeck will be a full England international by the end of the 2010/11 season.
Danny has been in amazing form, and it can’t go ignored for much longer. Already firmly established in the U21 team, it’s about time he stepped up. In a world where Jay F*cking Bothroyd can get a game for England, Danny should be almost guaranteed a start before long.

In the summer transfer window, SAFC will break their transfer record.
Ok, so Bruce and Quinn have already hinted at this, but I think it’s going happen, and we’re going be surprised with who it is. Don’t be too shocked when it’s someone like Gary Cahill, Stewart Downing or Ryan Shawcross as opposed to an exciting Gyan type signing.

SAFC will get into Europe.
And not just in some preseason tournament in Albufeira. Proper European football. After a hard fought season flirting with a European place, we manage to sneak into 7^th. In the wake of Arsenals win in the Carling Cup, that’s all we need to do.

Gyan will have a Cana-esque breakdown about wanting to be ‘home’ and leave.
I don’t want it to happen, but don’t blame me, blame the spirits. Something tells me Gyan will have a breakdown and want to move back to France as his family can’t settle. As I said, this will be Cana-esque bullshit, and expect to see him pulling on the shirt of Villareal or someone in Spain.

Bolo Zenden retires to become part of the coaching staff.
Hardly sticking my neck out saying a 34yr old will retire, but he’ll be a very welcome addition to the coaching staff, especially the young’uns.

Injury crisis leads to Angeleri getting a run of games.
Our defence is getting battered brutally at the moment, but events are conspiring to keep Angeleri from the team. Well no more! Injuries happen to Bardsley & Onouha are happening in 2011, and as SAFC seem secure in the Top 10, Bruce opts for the long-haired Argie to come into the right back position, with decent results. Consistently OK, if unspectacular, and the most beautiful man in the squad cements his place as a ‘Useful Squad Player’ heading into 2011/12.
